Film Review: ‘The Humanity Bureau’

Though not so long ago nearly every Nicolas Cage movie was a big-budget, wide-release affair, these days his movies are mostly so low-profile you might be forgiven for not knowing he still makes ’em — let alone that he’s done some of his best-ever work very recently. The gonzo displays of blackly comedic quasi-horror pics “Mom and Dad” and “Mandy” fall into that category (though recent thriller “Looking Glass” served no one particularly well), and new Canadian feature “The Humanity Bureau” is none too shabby a showcase, either.

From Marijuana to Movies – Guy Griffithe’s tale of extraordinary success in both

He’s currently involved with over 11 companies and has invested heavily in the technology and cannabis boom. How did Guy Griffithe go from being anti-marijuana to building one of the most premiere cannabis companies and revolutionizing the film industry? His journey is nothing short of extraordinary.

Griffithe was born in San Bernardino, CA to Elizabeth Griffithe. She raised her seven children primarily as a working, single mother, which came with challenges for the children. Griffithe taught himself how to swim, read, and write. At 13-years-old, he was answering the phone, making sales calls and setting appointments for his mother. He landed a telemarketing job for a publishing company at just 15-years-old. His gritty determination and perseverance led to his promotion to manager of sales, customer service, and the collections department. By 16-years-old Griffithe was making a $36,000 salary, so he decided to get a clean break: buy his first condo and emancipate himself.

It also happens to star John Travolta. Yes that John Travolta, the one from Pulp Fiction, Face/Off and Grease. Based on the book by Arthur J. Harris, the film follows the life of speedboat racing champion. Interestingly, though, the film has been shot in both standard format and in VR. While a big screen release will take place in 2018, the VR component will be distributed a little different.

Cannabis Grower Becomes President of a Major Independent Film Studio

Earlier this year, Guy Griffithe became president of Bridgegate Pictures, a major independent studio making films with actors like John Cusack, Christina Ricci, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage, Vicellous Shannon and John Travolta. What made the announcement interesting is that Griffithe is also a partner in Green Acres Pharms, and his affiliation with a boutique cannabis operation did not affect his opportunity to run a film studio. The Bridgegate president even plans to produce cannabis-themed content.

Do you know what else makes Griffithe interesting? He previously opposed cannabis legalization. Like so many people, Griffithe fell for the government-funded propaganda he had heard since birth, but he finally looked into cannabis himself when the shifting legal landscape brought new business opportunities. He is now a proponent, even using a topical cream for a skin condition he suffered.

vr film of the year nominee:  speed kills vr

Working to create an immersive, spatial and original VR media is very new territory for most designers and cinematographers. All nominations must substantially feature virtual reality within their media and work to create a comfortable and enjoyable experience for the viewer. Additional attention is given to the use of positioning and movement within the media. Can include short film, interactive pieces and design work within VR.
